NPA pledges continued support for Cambodia's mine-action efforts

Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) has pledged to continue supporting Cambodia’s mine-action programme, reinforcing a long-running international effort to clear land still contaminated by unexploded ordnance and landmines from past conflicts.

Cambodia remains one of the countries most affected by landmines, a legacy that continues to injure civilians and keep farmland out of use decades after the fighting ended. Clearance operations free up land for agriculture, housing and infrastructure.

Toward a mine-free goal

The government has set a national target to become largely free of landmines, and partners such as NPA provide technical expertise, survey work and funding to help meet it. Officials say sustained donor support is essential to keep clearance teams in the field.

Impact on communities

Beyond removing the immediate danger, demining allows rural families to reclaim safe access to their land and supports local livelihoods. Mine-action authorities emphasised that continued cooperation with international organisations remains critical to protecting communities and completing the work.
