China and Cambodia reaffirm 'ironclad' friendship at PRC anniversary

Cambodian and Chinese officials marked the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China with a ceremony in Phnom Penh, using the occasion to restate what both sides describe as an “ironclad” friendship built over decades of cooperation.

Speakers highlighted a relationship that spans infrastructure, trade and security, and reaffirmed support for each other’s core interests. Chinese investment remains central to major Cambodian projects, from roads and bridges to energy and special economic zones.

Deepening economic ties

China is Cambodia’s largest trading partner and a leading source of foreign direct investment. Officials pointed to continued cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative as a driver of the kingdom’s manufacturing and export ambitions.

Both governments signalled that the coming year would bring further agreements on trade facilitation and connectivity, framing the partnership as a stabilising force amid a shifting regional landscape.
